Been living here in Japan for 7 years now, and 2 years ago I became the first foreigner Soft Darts Professional Player here. I started playing darts four and a half years ago as a hobby, then i heard that there was going to be a Soft Darts professional exam and decided to try and take the test since I am known here in the provincial part of Japan as one of the top players, specially here in Kagoshima.
Since I have a darts bar, I got to practice everyday for the test, which was to finish 501 in six rounds or 18 darts by master out, which means you have to hit the doubles, triples or bull for your last pin, so you really have to arrange the score for your last pin. Then after you pass the throw test, you will have to take a written exam.
After finishing the throw test, we were given the study booklet for the written exam which we have to take after three hours and into my surprise, it was all written in japanese, prior to my exam, since they knew that I cannot read japanese specially kanji they told me that I can take the exam in english, that time I knew that I am in trouble. So I just ask my friends to help me study by reading aloud and explain what is written in the reviewer and I am glad that one of them helped me.
After the exam we were told to wait for a few days for the results and that we will be notified by mail. I am very excited to hear what happened to my test, then I heard from my friends that they already got their notice and almost everybody passed the written exam, so days past and I am still waiting for my letter and it never came. I was kinda sad because even if I failed the exam atleast I want to be notified, weeks past I decided to call the JDA Japan Darts Association office and inquire about my exam, you know what they told me? they told me that I didnt pass nor failed the exam but the problem is that they cannot understand my english ( lol! so i asked them who checked the papers and they told me some english teacher in college, more lol`s, I told to myself maybe what she`s trying to tell me is that they cannot understand my handwriting, because as I remember clearly, i was rushing everything because they only gave us a small period of time for the whole exam and japanese people are writing in kanji, katakana and hiragana which i guess faster that steno typing (stenography). So I ask them again what can I do about that and they told me to make a report about the history of darts in Japan, So i ask around and nobody seems to know anything about their darts history, I did some research and then translate everything in english and I finally finished it and sent it to them. After a few days, I got a letter saying that I passed and now a member of Soft Darts Pro Players here in Japan. And come to think of it I just changed their darts history.
